‘Malu’ is the Samoan translation for shelter or protection.
She carries the ocean in her spirit and the village in her hands. Throughout the Moana, the woman is the heart of the home and the keeper of generations — her strength is quiet, her presence, powerful.
The malu, etched into her skin, is not just a marking — it is a sacred vow, a graceful shield, a living story of service, dignity, and deep cultural pride. It speaks of her role as protector, nurturer, and leader — soft in voice, yet unshakable in purpose. Through her, traditions are held, languages kept alive, and communities grounded. In honouring the malu, we honour her — the backbone of our islands, the soul of our people.
